System Requirements for Using This Web-site

Map and General Inquiry Requirements

  • Web Browsers and Operating Systems 

    • Macintosh: OS X with Netscape 7+ or OS 9 with Netscape 7
    • Linux: Netscape 7+
    • Any OS: Most modern browsers with Java 2 and fully compliant Java-to-JavaScript support is required for full map functionality.  Otherwise, for the overwhemming majority of web pages, most browsers with JavaScript support would suffice.

  • Map Viewer - This is a free download and is only needed for map functions and automatically downloads if Java is enabled. 

  • Java - The map pages require Java support.  Most web browsers come with some Java Support.  If you are not sure if you have Java installed  or enabled, or are having problems viewing the map pages, you may download and install Java Standard Edition from http://java.sun.com/downloads/.  Optionally, if you are using Internet Explorer you may update your browser by clicking on Tools > Windows Updates and selecting all critical updates options.

  • Document Viewer - A free document viewer must be downloaded at each Internet session.

  • Personal Computer - Permit inquiry functions will run on any PC or Macintosh running the Web Browsers listed above. Note: Map functions may be limited for Macintosh users.

Permit Processing Requirements (Additional)

  • E-mail Address - A valid e-mail address is needed to create a login to process permits through the website.

  • Credit card - A valid Visa, MasterCard or Discover credit card to pay for the costs associated with the permit.

  • Printer – Permits issued through the web site must be printed and posted on the job site at the time of inspection.

  • City Business License Tax Number – A City business Tax Number is needed for anyone doing business in the City of San Jose.* (This does not apply to individuals obtaining permits for property they own)
